PRODUCT SOURCING / UBP

Metal materials and components to specification

We can help structure a request for standard metal stock or a component and identify the information needed for a quotation.

Discuss your request
01

The product form matters

Distinguish sheet from plate, bar, tube, profile and finished part. For a blank, say whether dimensions are before or after cutting; for a component, include a drawing and revision number.

02

Grade, condition and size

Specify exact grade and standard, condition or temper, thickness or section, width and length, tolerances, surface requirements and quantity. Intended processing—such as welding, forming or machining—or the service environment helps a supplier assess the request.

03

Request and follow-up

With these details, standard stock availability, cut-length options and supplier terms can be assessed. Special processing, material certificates and traceability must be agreed with the specific producer or service center.

Prepare your request

What to include in your RFQ

  • 01

    Material grade and standard

  • 02

    Product form and condition/temper

  • 03

Thickness or section, width and length

  • 04

    Tolerances, flatness and surface requirements

  • 05

Drawing, revision and critical dimensions for parts

  • 06

Quantity, lot size and cut-length needs

  • 07

Use: welding, forming, machining or environment

  • 08

Whether material certificates or traceability are needed

What to check

“Steel” or “aluminium” alone is not a specification: grade, condition and form affect processing and properties. Nominal size does not always mean exact size; confirm tolerances, substitutions, cutting and records before ordering.
