POWER-CONVERSION SOURCING / UBP

Inverters and power conversion by interface

An inverter is an interface decision, not a standalone wattage: topology, AC and DC context, operating modes, connected equipment and responsible system design must align.

Discuss this sourcing brief
01Choose topology
Grid-tied, hybrid, off-grid and charging roles differ.
02Match windows
AC/DC voltage, current and power must align.
03Map interfaces
PV, battery, meter, controls and loads interact.
04Name responsibility
Qualified parties approve design and settings.
01 / Follow the compatibility flow before naming a model

Follow the compatibility flow before naming a model

01

Operating role

Define grid-tied conversion, hybrid backup, off-grid supply, battery charging or another explicit role.

What must the system do in normal operation and during an outage?
02

AC context

State phases, voltage, frequency, available capacity, loads, export constraints and protection context.

Which site assumptions can change the inverter class or rating?
03

DC context

Describe PV strings or battery system, voltage/current windows, power and responsible compatibility approval.

Do all connected sources remain inside declared operating windows?
04

Control and evidence

Specify meters, communications, monitoring, modes, firmware, documents and service route.

Who configures, approves and supports the delivered system?
02 / Pass four interface gates before commercial comparison

Pass four interface gates before commercial comparison

01

Topology

Confirm
The product role and operating modes match the project architecture.
If unresolved
A hybrid label alone does not define outage or grid behaviour.
02

Electrical windows

Confirm
AC and DC voltages, currents, phases and power ranges are confirmed.
If unresolved
Nominal power can hide an incompatible voltage or current window.
03

Equipment interfaces

Confirm
PV, battery, meter, generator, loads and communications are explicitly compatible.
If unresolved
Matching connector names do not establish system interoperability.
04

Approval and settings

Confirm
Responsible parties own design, protection, settings, commissioning and grid requirements.
If unresolved
Factory defaults are not project approval.

04 / Prepare the request

Prepare the request

UBP coordinates sourcing and trade information. Qualified parties retain responsibility for architecture, electrical design, protection, grid requirements, settings, installation, commissioning and final suitability.

  1. 01

    Operating role

State grid-tied, hybrid, off-grid, backup or charging objective.

  2. 02

    AC context

Give phases, voltage, frequency, site capacity and export constraints.

  3. 03

    Power profile

Separate continuous, peak and starting loads and operating duration.

  4. 04

    PV input

Add string count, voltage/current ranges and array assumptions.

  5. 05

    Battery interface

Name chemistry/system, voltage, BMS relationship and approved pairing.

  6. 06

    Modes and protection

Describe outage, bypass, export, isolation and protection needs.

  7. 07

    Communications

List meter, protocol, monitoring, access and data requirements.

  8. 08

    Site and documents

Add environment, destination, quantity, manuals, declarations and service route.

05 / Buyer questions

Buyer questions

Can I choose an inverter by rated power alone?

No. Topology, phases, voltage/current windows, operating modes, connected equipment and site conditions also determine suitability.

Will any battery work with a hybrid inverter?

Do not assume it. Electrical limits, communications, BMS relationship, firmware and approved combinations require confirmation.

Does a hybrid inverter always provide backup in an outage?

Not automatically. Architecture, protected loads, switching, storage, protection and configured operating mode must be confirmed.

Who is responsible for settings and commissioning?

The project must name qualified parties for design, protection, configuration, commissioning and any grid approval.

What should an inverter quotation identify?

It should identify the exact model, configuration, accessories, limits, documents, service route, exclusions and commercial basis.
